Evensong

I'm calling on your Spirit Lord
in lonely night-time hours
to give me rest and save me
from a host of phantom powers
working doubts and groundless fears
to rob my bed of peace.
I need you now to tuck me in
and swaddle me with fleece
that whispers Oh so softly
of that Lamb who gave his life
so freely that my heart might find
an end to tossing strife.
And grant me by your evening grace
a sweet and fitful sleep.
For though I'm grown, I'm praying still
"The Lord my soul to keep".

In the middle of the night are the best times "to be still and know that He is God". Wonderful poem! Ellie

The meter in here is fantastic, it made me jealous.  You obviously are a technical genius, my friend.     I rarely see flaws in your work.
Kudos.

This is such a precious writing.  Besides the wonderful flow of lines, such peace and warmth you describe receiving, while keeping the child-like faith.  Rae

This so aptly describes coping with fears and doubts that assail one at night. Prayer always helps.

All,

thankyou for your remarks.  This one really did come
from a wrestling with fear.  I am reminded that Psalm 91 says
"You shall not be afraid of the terror by night".
The thought that kept coming to me was a child-like faith, which I expressed with
these words to the Lord.  I hope it can help others who experience similar feelings (which are not of God) in those wee hours.

Allan ,

Thanks. . . all kudos to him.

Stephen.
