~*~  It Feels Good To Pray  ~*~

While others around me bicker,
over what seem like such petty things,
My dearest friend lives in Extended Care,
but still each morning she sings.
Somehow yesterday’s problems all seem
so very trite and small,
I can’t even recall now what bothered me,
not one thing at all.

This friend has always given me hope,
whenever no hope was there.
She always listened to me and
I know she really cares.
She’s never turned away from me,
and always had the time,
She’s taught me “things” aren’t important,
it’s who you are inside.

She’s taught me to “smell a rose”,
and see the beauty in a book,
And to always give back to my fellow man
much more than I took.
She taught me the important of caring
and sharing each and every day,
To always give a helping hand or a smile
to others along my way.

She now sits there paralyzed;
and speaks in whispered word,
That once vibrant woman of wisdom
wants so badly to be heard.
She has taught me life lessons over the years
as a real Mother probably would,
And I would give anything just
to see her smile again,
anything that I could.

Now it will take time and patience
to determine her destiny,
So we usually sit reading,
just three friends,
Maggie, God, and me.
I learned something new from her
that happened by accident today,
She taught me to fold my hands,
so the two of us could pray.

We prayed that he would give us both
the strength to carry on,
I saw her sitting there praying
even after from her room I’d gone,
So I too stood in the hall and prayed
that God take this debilitation away,
Yes, I learned something new today,
and that is - it feels good to pray!

And because her life was a prayer, God sent you when she needed you.  Joyce

This is so touching.  What a beautiful Godly person your friend is and that beauty is mirrored in you.  I love this piece.  My 91 year old mother-in-law's in a nursing home so thought of her as I read this.  Thank you.

Friends like these are true to life angels.
It does feel good to pray! It refreshes us, as well as makes God smile.

I know your prayers were heard!

Mysteria,

First, you have written a very sentimental poem.

Next, you are an encouragement to me in that you as a true friend did not leave your friend during this time of her dibilitation but have remained an encouragement to her.

Last, you will never know whose lives were touched by your actions done with your friend.  As an example, the custodians of these Long Term Care Facilities have witnessed the neglect of so many of their patients when they enter into their need for extended care. To see you as a good friend come and pray, must have certainly touched their hearts....

your poem and your expression of Love toward your friend truly touched mine.

Good job on this poem!  The scheme of it was well thought-out, it had no technical errors I could detect.  The structure is magnificent.
I wish you the best of luck in the future with this situation.

Oh My!

I think I did this more for me folks, but I can't tell you how much your comments mean to me and I think I shall show this to Maggie too.

Trillium:  My too!  me too!  Thank you.

Joyce:  She was always there for me so she was my prayer actually, and it is my pleasure to be there for her now.

Sandgrain: Thank you so much...I hope it stirred you to visit your Mother-in-law?  They love visitors, as I am the resident clown now for a lot of them, and they love it!

Whitdove: I hope our prayers will be answered, just a little more help and one of our goals will be met, thank you so much.

Lighthousebob: I think your comment has made up my mind about creating some activities for the seniors there.  I started some and they loved it, but the trick is to keep it up!  And you are right - the nurses do care...these poor folks are put in their care, and no one comes that I can see, and I am there for lunch and dinner usually, and I see no one during the week only on the weekends, and then only short visits.  Terrible!  Thanks for your encouragement I truly do appreciate it from my heart.  Maggie is very special to me, and the others are becoming important too!

Allan: Got to tell the truth, I sat down and wrote this right in the submission area, not even thinking about technical form at all, as I had a heavy heart that day.  I am glad it turned out okay, and I think the "big guy" at that moment was not looking for any errors this time     Thanks for reading my poem.

Again, thank you all, and may I say if you know someone in one of those places, please drop in and just say "hi" - thank you.
