Oh, little one with merry eyes so bright,
Just because your mother is out of sight,
Do you think I don't know that you are
Looking for treats in my cookie jar?

As you reach your hand for the forbidden;
Do you find what else it is I've hidden?
As the jar lid makes that telltale click,
Will you discover my little trick?

Along with the cookies wrapped with care,
Will you find the love I have tucked in there?
Will you know the cookies your mother bakes
Are much more than little pastry cakes?

I pray no matter how old you are,
If caught with your hand in the cookie jar,
You're only looking for the love in there;
That your mother hid, along with a prayer.

How precious! It's a post sweeter than cookies. Rae

Very very nice. This can certainly be analogous to other 'cookie jars' in life. Well done! Love the focus on the 'love in there.'

oh, this is so precious... I love it!

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

Dear Joyce: Such a sweet poem! Kids and cookie jars just naturally go together, but I wonder if they are ever aware of the love that's gone into making them? Maybe they find it as they eat.

Joyce,

With cookie crumbs still on my face...

...makes me wonder who's being blessed the more as I so enjoy

each delicious treat that you have prepared in love for us to feast.
