I was hoping this could be another children's board book, but it doesn't seem quite as special as "The Light In My Closet"  What do you guys think?

Breakfast At God’s
Written by Janie Mathis

Wake up sleepy heads! Now brightly shines the sun
Dreams are fading ‘way, your day has now begun
Water tames your hairs and holds them in their place
Brush your pearly whites and “yucky” mouth erase
Pick your clothes with care, put on your Sunday best
Open up your hearts, for soon you will be blessed!
Sit down at His table, with grace break your fasts
His cooking always leaves a fullness that lasts
Leave you from His table, hunger and thirst no more
Hurry to His house; see what He has in store!
For at the door He stands, waits for you to come
With loving arms, open, invites everyone!
Rise up! Fear not! Hurry! While the sun still shines
God’s house knows no worries; just get there in time!
Don’t be like a book that is long overdue
Or a good intention that you meant to do
Or a postponed purchase due to pennies short
Or like a sour loser who’s not a good sport
Instead be the first bird to catch his dinner
Even when you lose, still act like a winner!
And with your loyalty comes rewards so great!
Just get to His house in time and don’t be late!

Love these lines...
Don’t be like a book that is long overdue
Or a good intention that you meant to do

I think this would go nicely on a children's
board book.

Janie,
This is rich and  good lesson(s)taught.
More parents should take your lead and spend quality time bringing kids up, knowing the ways of our Lord. This would solve a lot of problems in society for future generations.

I admire what you're doing for the glory of God and I think your poems are wonderful.

White Dove and Marcy,

Thanks for reading and commenting. There is so much Wonderful! poetry on this forum I know it's hard to read and comment on all of it. Thanks for your encouragement and support. This piece didn't come out quite as I hoped. I was inspired to write it on Sunday after I successfully got myself ready (from shower to makeup to drying my hair and getting dressed) and got both my 8 month old and my 3 yr old dressed for church in the same amount of time it took my husband to get ready which was 50 minutes.(he was a little lacking in motivation that day) I, of course, ran around like a mad-woman, but I did it. The idea for the poem came to me as I was brushing my 3 yr old's teeth while singing the "Ten Little Indians" song (I usually sing it all the way through about 7 times while brushing his teeth to make it fun and make sure we brush long enough)

I'll have to give it another try and see if I can work the 10 little indians in some how.

Janie

Excellent Janie!  And it would be a great addition to a book for kids.  Many of the poems I've written are for children too, they just give us so much inspiration.  This is wonderful.  Bonnie

I think that the idea is great for a children's book... It could be accommodated by some lovely illustrations.  In particular,  I can just see in my mind a picture of God standing in the church doorway pointing at His rather enlarged watch saying, "Now, children don't be late for Sunday School."  Personally, I think that some of the metaphors are a little to much for children to understand, but that is just my personal opinion.  I think your on the way to a great children's book here...  God Bless You, Bob <><
