Don't Turn Your Nose Up At Me !
~Marge Tindal~ 1999

Do you know who I am?
Do you even give a damn?
Do you pass me by
not caring if I cry?

Do you wish that I would just go away?
Are you afraid that I might contaminate you?
Do you cluck your tongue and say
tsk, tsk....I don't want to know you?

Well let me tell you something.
I once stood tall like you.
But I never stood so tall
that I looked down
on others from my view.

If you ever fall,
I hope you land soft and sweet.
I pray someone will be there
to help you to your feet.

I would not pass you by,
no matter how you've treated me.
I'd never be so cruel
as to leave you lay on the street.

Put yourself in my place,
if you can stoop that low.
It's a real short fall
from where you are
to where I am,
you know.

The next time you pass my way,
please take time to say
a kind word of encouragement.
Don't turn your nose in the air
with your aristocratic stare.
You're only a tiny slip away
from being where I am today.
I did not sit down ...
I slipped and fell.
---------------------------------------------
*A gentle reminder of the homeless on the streets. Take just a moment to say something ... anything to let them know,
we know they exist. If you can't find the words ... a genuine smile will do. And then a prayer.

Cates - I hear your appreciation of the reminder. Never more real than to one who has been there.

Elizabeth - I send you the 'Spirit Of The Wind' ... and then take your breath away ... Thank you.

Denise - A humble lesson for us all.

Gunslinger - Coming from you (one I so admire) this is enough to make me say a humble thanks.

OhMe - So very glad you liked it.

Balladeer - Yes, closer to the truth than many of us would care to remember or admit, huh? Thank you, my friend.

Great one Marge. Though I can't say I'm homeless, but sure have had that snooty stare from people. Can't say that I liked it a bit.

Marge: Brilliant and so true...ooops, not of you but I mean the homeless...could happen to any one of us or maybe we were there once...

WhiteDove - And I know you can just imagine how it tears at the hearts of those who could be lifted, if for just a moment, by a tender word.

RainbowGirl - Yes, and it could be any one of us ... so, what cost a decent look or gesture? I choose to be the candle, reflecting light into the mirror and watching it's glow light up a face.

Marge: I can't say I've learnt that much but one thing I do know, people react differently according to your station in life...enough said!.. ...Valuable lesson though..and so true about the candle...
