I Can't..

I am afraid to give my all.
I can't be totally free.
There is a part that I hold back,
just a little part of me.

I know why I can't,
It stems from the past.
I know from experience,
that love will never last.

No matter what I tell myself,
or how much I care.
I know deep inside me,
You won't always be there.

I hold back some of my love,
I can't give my all.
Though I really want to,
I am afraid of the fall.

Someday I will look for you,
and you won't be there.
So I'll protect that little part,
The part that I can't share.

I wish I felt different,
To lie I just won't do.
A part of me can't feel
secure, in my love for you.

Being with you is heaven.
Misery when you are gone.
But I know what I am in for,
a memory when you are gone.

I can't do it darling.
I won't give you my whole heart.
My love is unconditional,
and will be when we part.

Your poem is wonderful! I know how you feel too. You're afraid of becomming too open and involved. It's scary. But I know that everyone else will also say, that by holding back that little part of you, your missing a huge part of a great experience. Keep up the spectacular poetry!

Ditto, Ditto, Ditto what Laura says... I know you know this too, and it is one of the hardest things in life to do. EXCELLENT job on this piece, it is beautiful... and sort of sad at the same time. Great job
