( in the 60's I wrote a lot of protest poems and songs. Just wanted to see if I still have the knack)

When I was young, my momma told me
If I broke the law
I'd be severly punished but I've
Come to see a flaw.
For those who think I'm wrong I would be
Grateful if you'd find
The time to answer some small questions
Floating in my mind.

Who killed Ronald and Nicole?
That's what I'd like to know.
The cops say it was O.J.
The jury said, "Not so".
And Johnny Cochran smiles as he
Deposits all that dough
So who killed Ronald and Nicole?
I'd really like to know.

84 congressmen driving drunk
Claimed congressional immunity.
What phrase exists for all the simple
Folks like you and me?
Equality is here for all,
Or that's the way they call it.
Appears to me the ones set free
All have the fattest wallets.

Who killed Jon Benet, my friends?
That's what I'd like to know.
The cops think it's the parents.
The rest say "I don't know."
Will there be justice down the road
Or will they let it go?
So who killed Jon Benet, my friends?
Not sure I'll ever know.

They say you can't have God in school.
To do it is a crime,
While criminals plea bargain and
Don't do a day of time.
And criminals will sue you if
You use excessive force
And sue the penal system if
They hate the dinner course.

So what about Milosovitch?
That's what I'd like to know
And all the other sonsabitches
Who raped Kosovo?
Let's not forget Saddam Hussein,
Who slaughtered friend and foe.
So what about their punishment?
I'm sure I'll never know.

I hope that there's a heaven and
I pray that there's a hell
I hope that there's a judgement day
There at the final bell.
I hope accounts are settled and
All debts made very clear.
I hope it happens there because
It doesn't happen here.

You have'nt lost your touch.
And I can add I like this poem
So very very much.

Balladeer

You could write about anything
Or nothing just the same
You have a knack for anything
And everything is game
And everybody everywhere loves your poetry
For there's no one anywhere that doesn't love it less than me.

Yes, Balladeer, you do still have the knack. Kinda reminds me of something Shel Silverstein might pen, were he still here with us in body. Exemplary job, my friend Balladeer.

Thank you, Sy, Martie and Hoot for your kind words.

Elizabeth, thanks for your poem. It's gonna take me an hour to decipher that last line!

Alicat...just to be mentioned in the same sentence as my hero Shel is an honor. Thanks, pal.

Nan...I was a little busy at the time.

Whenever accounts are settled, 'Deer one, your rewards should be many... If you ever lost the knack for making people stop and think, you've regained it with a vengeance. *S* Well done!!

If you ever get the answer to these questions, please let me know. I believe in justice..and God will take care of them. Your poem is a more of a song..get out your guitar and start strumming! If you want to march on some city, let me know..I'll follow the Balldeer!

Balladeer - Definitely well-stated.
Makes me wonder sometimes if justice will be served.
I'm sure the day of reckoning will come when they stand before the greatest Judge of all time ... no plea bargains !
Thanks for bringing this my way.
