The Icicle Winkens

There was magic, that’s the clue
to the remembrance I bring you to,
the childhood memory, only some may share
of when we were young, and without care.

For during the early winter’s time
there came a spirit of love in kind
wrapped up in a Christmas festive,
when little children become so restive.

Now you, dear ‘Deer, need have no fear
for your remembrances are sincere;
and Pepper, to your amazed delight
sugarplums will have danced that night…

Sweet Nan of all the Cape Cod dreams
magic to you is what it seems
and Poet deVine, weaver of schemes
you would also have sweet dreams.

There are other poets who may be reading
and you are named here in my thoughts
for you share your gifts galore
something that your magic brought.

And I would be so sorely remiss
if I did not include the Master in this;
for there is only One away on high
and the other Master, well, Ron is nigh…

But I veer away from the truth intent
of portraying my memory and sentiment.
so when I read of Seymour’s debris
I thought of all past Christmas trees.

Now to a child, whose eyes are wide
there is some mystical magic deep inside
that comes and spreads over the evergreen
and invades all sweet children’s dreams.

But for me, the best magic of all
is when silvered icicles are a’winking
for you see it come back to you
in a child’s eyes when they’re a’blinking.

And soon amid the cluttered stream
of opened hopes, and opened dreams
and while the lights are still a’twinkin’
on the tree, the icicles are a’winkin’.

Then as is wont, and needs to be done
the revelry is over, and gone is the fun,
the tree is down, on the curb at roadside
but I still see the magic, it does not hide.

For although the ornaments have been duly taken
wrapped in tissue and again stored away
there still remains on the tree, in sunlight blinking
some remains of magic icicles, still a’winkin’.

So to all Passions’ friends and residents here
in Passion’s Forums, I wink in your New Year,
and know that I pass on to you shining wishes
Of Love and Humanity, so to you, hugs and kisses.

Thank you Sy. You were the first one to break into the jingling season, and I'm sure these will not be our last attempts...
