Comin’ Home by ©Richard Budig 1996 I’d’ve been home sooner ‘cept this road is longer than I remember Tail lights keep Disappearin’ into the night Just red blurs in the rain So I keep walkin’ Puttin’ one foot down Pickin’ up the other An’ thinkin’ o’ you An’ wishin’ I was home Bumper sticker goes by Says’ “I’m goin’ home, How ‘bout you?” I join the rain An’ begin to cry Billboard asks, “Do you Know where your kids are?” An’ I reply, “Hell, I don’ even Know where I am.” Up ahead’s a roadside phone, But the phone’s gone, An’ it’s rainin’ harder now ‘sides I don’t have a quarter So it don’ matter no how All I know f’ sure ‘s I’m comin’ home One way ‘r ‘nother I’m comin’ home t’ you |

Great poem you have here, kind of sad, and with my knowledge in school brings to mind the migration of farmers from the Dust Bowl in the Great Depression. Great piece, the dialect used was a great touch ------------------ "'Cause there's a hunger, a longing to escape, from the life I live when I'm awake" - Creed - "Higher" |
