The Horse of a Soldier

In the skirmish of self awareness
battlefields are laid prepared,
cultivated with cannon balls
and the hooves of couriers
watered by the blood
of fallen companions.
though none are so gallant
in their undying loyalty
as this faithful stock…

The Horse of a soldier.

While centuries marched ever advancing
man's skirmish with foes
from his innermost parts
changed like the seasons
delivered on his doorstep
to be read as an afterthought
of an event too distant
to prevent him from rehearsing
the history of the past
being transported ever onward
by that which he invented
and esteemed in dependency…

The Horse of a soldier.

Till now as before
caught in these hostilities
engaged in this battle of wills
from an enemy so distant
created solely to be an antagonist
for it seems the way of this existence
that so many have fallen
and am I still standing?
have I suffered no wounds?
My mount awaits my instructions
and I am ill prepared for this conflict
unaware of my skills as an enlistee
so afraid of the loneliness
when the war is over.
For in peace
who will ride…

The Horse of a Soldier?

Alirght I'll take a shot at this one, though I'll probably make a horses rear end of myself. But does it have something to with the letters that are delivered, or the mail from home???

hmmmmm....thinking...thinking...ummmm could the Horse represent the cause or crusade of the moment and the soldier you and I? And how lonely and empty we would be without a cause to fight and die for? Or something like that? Oh my brain hurts! Thanks alot Robert!

Great poem by the way, very well written whatever it means! I enjoyed it!

well...well....well. I slept very well last night...(yawn) ummm the poem ...yes the poem.

You guys have to realize that some of my poems come from a part of my brain that I do not even understand at times. Anyway...I think...I think that horse=poem and soldier=poet. More later.....my brain hurts now too. Thanks a lot!!!

Most excellent Sir Robert... knowing who is who also makes it that much more special. A real talent you are. Top shelf material here. And, if you couldn't tell I really liked it.
