How many souls have sheltered there Within your walls so safe from care How many tots with teddy bears Have sleepily trudged up your stairs? How many dreams were fashioned there So grandiose, beyond compare How many moments have you seen Both moments strained and times serene? How many tears have fallen there From broken hearts beyond repair How many people came to see Their fondest dreams would never be? How many knees have knelt in prayer How many hearts have met Him there Within your walls, upon your floors How many there, behind your doors? How many stories could you share Of all the folks who've sheltered there Down through the years from days of old How many stories could be told? ------------------ Denise |

Lovely Denise. Reminds me of my mother's home. The same house I lived in throughout my childhood. Many a child has walked through her door and in many ways. Thank you. |

Thanks, Rebecca and Julie! I live in a neighborhood of very old houses. Mine was built in 1886. I was thinking about that one day and started to wonder about all the people who have lived here since then. (sometimes my mind wanders like that!) Thanks again for your kind comments! ------------------ Denise |

A masterful tribute. You continue to make me smile. ------------------ Once I was brilliant, now I no longer shine, but the twinkle in my eye speaks of another time. |

Denise, I'm reminded of the song 'This Old House'. I grew up in such a house and the memories are deep within of the smells, the hiding places, the fun, the mystery and yes, the nostalgia of it all. Great memory shaker ... thanks. ------------------ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Wonderful poem Denise.... Your house sounds fascinating....Is it registered with the Historical Society? ------------------ A soul that writes from the heart and shares it, truly gives a gift extraordinaire! |

Thank you, Elizabeth, RS, Marge, Ruth, Seymour and Pepper for reading and commenting! It is always appreciated! Pepper- No, I don't believe so. It is only one of thousands, if not more, that were built around that time. Philadelphia is a city of many old neighborhoods! I guess they just built houses very well during the last century, as most of them are still standing and livable! ------------------ Denise |

If only these old walls could talk....right, Denise? What stories indeed! This is excellent, worthy of thought.....as all yours are. |

Somehow, I suspect you have your children's height's measured on the walls. The memories that exist within a home... not only ours, but those who have proceeded us. Thank you for the poem Denise, very nice. |

Denise, I sold my house in Colorado before moving to Texas. It was built in 1886. I know that house experienced a lot. One was a small earthquake just a few years back. ------------------ Yesterday is history, tomorrow just a mystery. And if today is good to me how could I ask for more? |
