Citrus Reminiscent of citrus is he Biting, pungent juice of lemon Just as quickly transforms to be Sweet as spring orange blossoms On my tongue taste of liquid salt A pearl hidden in each silvery slice Jagged bitterness not of his fault Pure, the way that nature designed This tree is verdant, strong Copious fruit yellow and plump Bending with the wind for as long As essence of being allows Plucking ripe fruit, tearing the peel He watches, silently waits He is like this tree, but he is real And he quenches my many thirsts The clean scent of grapefruit lingers Sustenance, such a simple fare Juice upon my face and fingers Sluiced away the pain, sated at last I lay down beneath his shady cover Looking at moving cloud pictures His limbs reach out, a frantic lover Sucking me deep within his roots There are dark unearthly pleasures We were not supposed uncover Temptation: clandestine treasures Here where the blood oranges grow This love may not hold the key The lime is still sweet and sour In time love will fade away in me But for now I am under his power © May 1999 Corinne Bailey |

Corrine, this is great.....I love the imagery. ------------------ Thinking is just what a great many people think they are doing when they are merely rearranging their predjudices. |
