VISIONS OF WOOD FENCES Wood fences of Kentucky wind forever through the hills Their loveliness disguises the intention they fulfill They've become an inherent part of the rolling hills they grace Adding warmth and serenity to that lovely place The rolling hills of old Fayette A place my heart cannot forget Beside the stately entrance gate the fence begins its aim In a strait and sure direction along a country lane Then suddenly it turns and twists in an unexpected course Following the random contoured pasture of the horse So did my life take twists it seems As I lost my most exquisite dream The fence's long haphazard path provides a certain yield Adding elegance to the landscape and character to the field Its beauty is yet more enhanced as it scales a craggy knoll Just as the depths of sorrow add dimension to your soul How great the sorrow on that day How winding is the fence's way So immense the acreage and the storm through which the fence has come And like a dream, ends up in the place it started from Well weathered wood affords the landscape even more allure Just as the heart becomes more eloquent for the pain it has endured The pain's now just a memory The dream has vanished in the sea My heart is now more joyous and revels in the thrill Upon first beholding fences which grace Kentucky's hills As they quietly stand in reverence to the mare and new born foal They illuminate these visions and uplift my very soul The thrill of witnessing pure truth In elated innocence of youth The fences zig zag through my soul and swirl around my heart As they stir the passions and the beauty of which I felt a part They encase my very being and the memories so dear They surround me with an inner joy of long forgotten years The lovely fences of old Fayette A thrill my spirit can't forget Though far away they still encircle the dimensions of my dream And define the rendered essence of who I am and who I seem Just as my heart still winds around the dream my spirit feels Wood fences of Kentucky still meander through the fields The dream is now completely gone The fences ramble on and on.... This is more than excellent. The combination of the fences and your life is brilliantly portrayed. This is one to be proud of, for sure. |

Your descriptions and the sensory feel of this poem are wonderful and the way you relate it all to life--very good poem. |
