Obedient Oblivion She drove a 1988 Esquire station wagon with the driver's side window stuck in the Up position which is best because it kept the elements away from her life while taking kids to school five minutes before the bell, laundry on Mondays, keeping the beer cold and the remote where it should be Except a window stuck in the Up position can’t keep out the numbness of lonely nights staring at the ceiling weeping under heavy breathing… alcohol laden while she dreamed of coming home, parking the Esquire in the garage, then closing the door and leave the engine running. RB ------------------ if you can dream; you can fly...if you are flying; you are dreaming. |

Thanks...it came to me as I was sitting in a McDonalds drive through and a lady in front of me was driving a 1988 Esquire wagon and she had to open the door to pay the girl for her food and she dropped all her money on the pavement. I felt sorry for her and wrote this poem as soon as I got home. Robert ------------------ if you can dream; you can fly...if you are flying; you are dreaming. |

You also can take anything and write something great, can't you?! Your explanation just reminded me of something similar that happened to my Mom, except she was on a bus with 2 or 3? of us kids, at rush hour and dropped all her fare money for her and us.....and that glaring bus driver...oh, I can't tell you had bad I felt for her. Sometimes life realllly stinks! ------------------ Denise |

From such a miniscule happenstance you created an excellent piece. Definitely the mark of a poet. |

This was great Robert! So poignant, sad and real. The slice of life poem is my favorite. |
