Youth, a Vintage |

I remember freckles dancing- When you'd turn and smile at me. Together we spent hours- Walking, talking, climbing trees. We were poor, but didn't know it We were young and full of life- We were friends and that was plenty Thinking not of sex or strife. We would sing and run, and share our dreams And talk of things to come We were in each others futures- It's like that when folks are young. Then the years and miles betrayed us- Took us both so far away- Decades passed for us so quickly Until just the other day... I saw you at a funeral, The years just fell away- And the past came flooding sweetly, It seems like yesterday. We embraced and I could see it- Flaring there within your eyes The memories of better days Then you too realized- Youth is like rare vintage- And does grow sweet with age; It is there for us to savor- Prose upon time yellowed page. |

Now the profound meaning to this piece I find delightful. Now and forever, my heart hears ~one voice~. This is one of my favorites! Your poetry is very prolific at the moment. It's hard to keep up. Keep it up! Liz |
