I need you
your strong darkness
My salvation of the morning
My ease at night
So many tastes of you
to feed my addiction
Your warmth lingers,
slowly fills me and
I hold you close, to
inhale more deeply
of your scent
You are my
awakening
Opening my eyes
to refinements of
culture,
savoring your many
flavors at night
Yet always
I find I love you most
just before dawn
in your primitive,
dark, strong constitution,
never desecrated by
cream and sugar
in my cup

What a wonderful perspective to take, Caroline - I love the idea of desecration through cream and sugar.

It highlights to me how out of touch we seem to be with the world (ie - 'Colder'! - reading my mind again...?)
Marvellous work.

Caroline you do have a way with words.

Nan~ gotta have it black...milk in my coffee? UGH! No sugar either...can't risk losing my grouchy nature...*LOL*.

Severn...I drink all this coffee just trying to stay in touch with the world!!!

Dream, sweetness, I thank you, my coffee-hating friend

That sure describes it well! A morning without coffee is...well...not morning!
Great poem and choice of words too!

This was great Caroline--you had me thinking of a lover not a coffee lover.

the heart finds its morning
and is refreshed.

Although I have never liked coffee, you certainly have given me a new look on it

Denise...you got that right!   Thanks!

DA...some organic Costa Rican light...it was great *LOL*  (pouring you out a cup...have some!)

Martie~~Well I gotta take what I can get..ROFL

Hoot, my friend...try this recipe...you'll be a convert for sure
Toffee Coffee
One cup of black coffee
Three tablespoons of caramel syrup
Two tablespoons half & half

Pour the caramel syrup into a tall mug, pour the hot coffee over it. Add the cream, stir well. Top with whipped cream and sprinkle with cinnamon/sugar or nutmeg (your choice!)
Kick back and enjoy it
(This is also good with some amaretto thrown in!)

Caroline -

Here I sit,
coffee cup in hand.
The taste of my coffee
is really quite grand.

Maxwell House and I
have a covenent with Heaven,
if it's not served
WELL .....
(no, no ... not there !)
If Heaven doesn't
serve my blend ...
we'll have to see
that it's brought in.

I mellow mine
with cream so light,
it really is
a morning delight.

Thank you for
the rhyme
it was
'good to the very last drop'.

ROFL...Caroline, now you're making me crack up...I was just about to say, "fine friend you are, tell me it's hard when you miss someone and then go and put a seductive poem in front of me"...and then I realised... ROFLMAO!!

Now there's a thought, Boy George said he prefered Tea to sex, how about man or coffee?...hmmmmm, Can't I have both??? but which first??..*G*
