How I was saved by love I dreamt the raven spoke to me, In a gie of mute soliloquy. An epilogue in silent gesture, Of some coming guise of venture He stood an epitaph in state. Formal black his suit of clothes, Downward pointed his beak and nose. His actions seemed a weird malaise But his eyes were blood red ablaze, Implying I, some awesome fate. Then he cast a soothing spell, Like cooling waters of a well. That made me sink in passions plea In reference to my not to be. And my mind flew to abrogate. The raven tends oblivion, He tarries him on carrion. A fearful symbol and a guise, Impending doom of ones demise. Opening the gate, quick to late. I cannot say I welcomed him. Weather real or ghostly whim And I questioned his probate? But he shook his head in wait, And again he nodded the date. He plucked my soul in villainy I screamed a cry of agony. I swore to all the gods above, I could not go, I was in love. So he gently laid me back in bed And whispered me, I was not dead. |

WOW! A big resounding clapping noise echoing from the poetic dome of my mind! You captured me with every line, Sy. I do have one question - is 'Weather' deliberate or meant to be 'whether'? I'm just curious - I read it both ways and they both make sense. Master poet, take a bow for this one. K |

Nan, For you I'll hang around. *L* Sy Liz, You got me with the verys Every one went through my heart. *L* ya, Sy Michael, You got that right, Love conquers all. Severn, It's a mute point, I was concious of the two, And thought I'd use the more obscure one. Whether would be more one directional? I think, what do you think I value your opinion. *L* Sy |

Well, Sy, I like it as 'Weather' too - for it adds to the metaphorical content and encourages the reader to pause and think - a great thing in a poem. Whether is indeed one directional, my friend. I felt that weather gives two qualities - a concrete reality and also as ravens are harbingers of storms and omens - it also juxtaposes against the traditional concept of weather as said concrete element; creating an emotional storm. What do you think? (Reminds me of Poe) K |

Wow, Wow, Wow..............you have outdone your self on this one Seymore. What a piece of writing!! I absolutely love the format you chose to display your fine words in with this one...it does much to add to the poem. "He plucked my soul in villainy I screamed a cry of agony. I swore to all the gods above, I could not go, I was in love. So he gently laid me back in bed And whispered me, I was not dead." What can I say...these words hopefully will be a classic someday like Poe's the Raven. Great job!!!! |
