The Old Cowboy Crystal blue smile Peeking thru wrinkles of tan A faraway gaze Ageless story of man A lifetime of choking trail dust Left his words but a rasp Frequent meetings with defiant mustangs Left his gait but a shuffle I see in silent azure twinkle Man of iron Heart like a kitten Hands that could tame the fiercest bronc Have my eyes widening in transfixed wonder As he gently cradles a newborn foal With grasp of leather Fingers like claws Velvet touch Gentle stroke Tender mercy Angel smile The old cowboy Has travelled many a mile ------------------ "We have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night" (Tombstone epitaph of two amateur astronomers) |

Excellent, being an old cowboy myself, I found it particularly drawing. Thanks. |

Good job, once again. I have found that through your poetry, you express people's lives and stories very well. |
