Well, hello, Mr. Loneliness, I'm back with you again I see you've got the place fixed up just like it was back then. I really didn't think that I would see you any more Yet here I am again, my friend, just like it was before. I see the cans of tuna fish stacked on the pantry shelf With macaroni, cheese and all things I can fix myself, A quart of milk, a dozen eggs, a jar of apple jelly, A pound or two of lunchmeat and some cole slaw from the deli. One knife, one spoon, one fork, one plate, 100 coffee cups, Some liquid soap and Drano for the times the sink erupts. A microwave and toaster oven. Man, I'm really set. Just don't know how much luckier a simple man can get. Let's see, my good friend Loneliness, one toilet paper roll, One cloth, one towel, one bristle brush to clean the toilet bowl, One bar of soap and some shampoo - a razor, too, I think One single lime-green toothbrush laying on the bathroom sink. I see a stack of magazines stacked up next to the john (With Beanie Weenie dinners, who knows how long one stays on?!) The Pizza Hut delivery number right next to the phone, A must for men like you and me who chance to live alone. The bed is rather small. There's not a lot of room to spare. It really doesn't matter, though, since only I'll be there. The reading lamp there on the table gives a decent light For those times when I want to read myself to sleep at night. It's funny, Mr. Loneliness, sometimes to me it seems That, through these past few years, I had been living in a dream, A dream where love lived here with me and laughter filled the air That gave my soul a peace and happiness beyond compare. I dreamed that when I woke up in the morn, I'd see a face That rendered me quite speechless with its beauty, charm and grace But, like the times before, that dream has, too, come to an end And I awake to greet the day with you, my kind, old friend. Life goes on, Mr. Loneliness. It has its ups and downs And, every time that it gets rough, I know you'll be around. Let's order up a pizza, maybe have a beer or two; How blessed, or cursed, I am to have a faithful friend like you. [This message has been edited by Balladeer (edited 12-16-1999).] |

My friend, you scare me. Sometimes it's like reading my own thoughts from another man's pen. Deja who? An excellent piece, sir, avant garde! ~GS~ |

Well, perhaps Mr Loneliness just needs a ramble through some hills and a good strong woman to come and carry him off... *smile* This is great as usual, 'deer. |

Seems like everywhere I go, I just can't seem to shake These little friends that follow me, Mr. Lonely and Mr. Heartache. They never have a cheerful face, And always hang around. Each time I think I'm on my way, Here they come to bring me down. I think I'll run and try to hide From their piercing eyes. I wished that they would understand. I don't want to be their friend, or even socialize. I finally found that special someone. I think I'll cry no more. Who's there? I think I hear Someone knocking on my door. Hello Mr. Lonely, hello Mr. Heartache Come on in. Yes, here I am, you found me. I guess I just can't win. Balladeer, sorry, you inspired me. I loved your poem, great piece. |

Oh dear, lonliness is such a bad companion really. To be alone is sometimes joyful, but lonliness hurts. We all feel its pull from time to time though. So if this guy is staying long at your place, I think it's time to kick him out. Well done poem Balladear. |

"Lonely...I'm Mr. Lonely..." Great ol' song, wasn't it?! It's a good thing I know this could never be you, my dear. My heart couldn't take the burden of the aforementioned loneliness upon you!! You see, I know there are laws against kidnapping but, I think I'd have to bend the rules a bit and wisk you away. (I know, I know you mentioned your friend in the end...you always add that special balladeer twist!!) As always, fine work Michael. |

Balladeer - Really a great rendering on this one. You've so much to share and have done it very well. Enjoyed it so much. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Well...I don't do the cans of tuna and pizza and stuff..yuck! I've got a kitchen full of food and hate to cook just for myself, so I seldom eat dinner. If you ever get up this way, come on by and I'll cook you a big pan of my famous lasagna, complete with salad, breadsticks and chianti (Promise not to cook venison for you, 'Deer! LOL) It's not the love you fear, but the fall from the height~Edwin McCain |

Deer This was a very very sad poem (well written, though). All of you ladies out there (except Lorelei, of course). It is your duty to get down to Florida and give this guy a great lay so that he will keep his spirits up. Don't delay, give Deer a lay. |

Well this one sure says a lot. If Mr. Loneliness ever leaves you high and dry, I know a lady named Misery who could always use some company. As solitude is almost personified in my life, this one reached a bit deeper than most...good job, Balladeer. Michael |

Reading your work is sheer pleasure. For years I was extremely lonely with 5 kids and a husband. I believe it comes from not feeling understood, but it can't be your type as you express feelings so well in your lines, everyone understands! |
