The Christmas rush is on it seems Judging by the traffic on the street Greeting me with high beams My vision they defeat. We sally forth to Wal-Mart In search of Christmas gifts And always there we realize Something is amiss. Children running to and fro Parentless 'twould seem Stringing things from aisle to aisle Leaving toys in between. And then a new question arises Looking through the clothing there. Nothing in human sizes For our relatives to wear? Perhaps a gift of stemware Surely that would please? But all the stems are broken there On a shelf around my knees. Look! There's the thing they long for Sitting on a shelf. Oh Drat! Now it's been taken By an ungrateful elf. What to buy now what to buy? I search somehow in vain No matter how hard I try And constantly search my brain. Surely there's another store A shopping Utopia somewhere Where children aren't allowed indoor And gifts abound like air. Mr. Walton if you're watching From your haven up above I'm sure you must be laughing As these people push and shove. So I'll give you thanks this season For this abyss you've created For without it we could reason Somewhere else we hated. < !signature--> Â Knowlege tempered by wisdom...Wisdom tamed by youth. Ah yes! Nothing like it in the world! Makes me want to hurry up and get the heck outta there! Argh! Just a couple of nights ago, I go in there for 1 item - I saw empty shelves, broken leftovers, and I'm not kidding you - at LEAST 50 carts with weary shoppers leaning on them, standing in the Layaway line !! Gads! It must have been payday! I was so thankful I hadn't used Layaway this year! What madness indeed! I got my item, and ran for the nearest exit !!!! This poem of yours brought back all those horrific images! LOL Thanks for sharing! I too, like the photo! Gees, you clean up nicely brother! ROFL  I've always seen you in jeans and t-shirt ! - - - If I can just touch you once, then I feel I have accomplished what I am called to do...- - pFF |

Glad to finally see the man behind the words and nice pic too lol. I remember when Wal Mart was my favorite store to hang out in. I went there the day after Thanksgiving and people were fighting over shopping carts!! I was mortified that these otherwise normally sane people would fight over these things. Some lady (I use the term loosely) actually hit another one with her handbag. I got one of those little crates with handles and got my stuff and got out of there. I went back a week later and you're right...unsupervised kids everywhere and broken items and clothes strung all over the place including in sporting goods. Strange place to see a negligee. You have also described MY WalMart! I've decided I'll pay higher prices just to NEVER shop there during the busy time (and I've tried from 6 am to 11 pm to find a quiet time.. there is none!)...so I'm giving gift certificates for movies instead of WalMart purchased items! Good poem!  |

RSEvans - My favorite forward movement ~Sally forth~ ... doesn't it just say it all? Great job. Personally, I like Christmas shopping almost everywhere. I find parents responsible for their offspring ... and I always have a great big smile for weary store workers. I love the hustle and the bustle of Wal-Mart ... quite a cross-walk of people there. On Aisle 4 ... the 'ghost' of Sam Walton, one of the finest men it was ever my pleasure to meet. He loved to go to his own stores and observe the people shopping. The hustle and bustle of Wal-Mart. What would we all do without it. The best prices in town for sure and that's why everyone is there to save money. Just wait until they get on the internet and we will all be able to sit at home and visit their web site. I for one can't wait. We will not have to worry about getting a parking space or getting ran over by the crowd. Mr. Sam is probably smiling from above because he has already thought of all this you know... Shine a light and darkness disappears. |

Thanks everybody for your comments on my pic. It's a wedding photo from (should I give my age?) 6 years ago. I agree with you Marge, that Sam Walton was a fine individual. I find it disturbing that so few of the existing Wal-Mart executives display his verve and attitude toward the shoppers. Still, if there's something we need we'll drive 20 minutes out of our way to look at Wal-Mart rather than spend the extra 10-75 cents per item at our local stores. I do have to kind of wonder about these poor local shop owners that we tend to neglect. Everyone please...Have a Merry Christmas. |
