I will be the person you want me to be.
But deep down inside you will never know me.
I will not let my true feelings show.
I will stay for awhile, and then I will go.

This fleeting and elusive heart has a secret fear.
So it will turn and run from you if you get too near.
Within myself I hide behind a camouflage.
I guess you could say I'm like a distant mirage.

That special one will come along some day.
And perhaps he's already passed my way.
But you know what they say about if it's true then let him go.
And someday if he returns, then I guess that I will know.

So if you want me to stick around,
Then don't try and tie me down.
Because right now that is not what I am looking for.
I just want to have some fun, be your friend and nothing more.

What you see before you is what you get.
For anything more I'm not ready yet.
I want to live for the moment and have some fun.
And today I've picked you to be the one.

Just when you think you have me all figured out.
I shift and change like the formation of a cloud,
Or like the rising tide, or the shifting of sand.
Staying one step ahead, I'm hard to understand.

Marge - You read so well between the lines. Actually this was written for my 20 year old daughter. She has her mind set on getting through school and making sure she has a career before she settles down with anyone. She's determined not to let a guy change her goals.
