Mighty warrior's drum's beat
in the darkness of the night.
A wild thing is caught in flight.

At the net of the trap I pull,
seeking, searching a way to be.
For in my heart I long to see,
the unknown thing set free.

For a lifetime the trap has held.
Against many wild promises,
it has never failed.

The drums of life beat softer still,
a slow warm enchanting beat,
enticing the unknown thing beneath.

The blood rushes through my veins,
I cry out in my pain.
Oh how I long to see,
the unknown thing set free.

I fight hard with all my pride,
against the weakness stealing inside.

I can not loose,
yet I must fail.

Through tear dimmed eyes I see,
a warrior come to guide me.

In my weakness he gives me strength.
In my tears he finds a smile,
together we battle side by side.

Two hearts beating softly in the night,
arms holding each other tight.
On clouds of love we float away,
the unknown has been set free today.

Betty -
You touched me with this one.
So very nicely played.
The Warrior's drumbeat ...
sets the wild thing free.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful !

I feel the longing for freedom clearly in this poem, until of course you fall in love and the unknown thing is freed. (Do you mind me asking what the unknown thing is? I'm not too clear on it.)
I like the poem very much, Betty.
