Seven years
and hundreds of memories ago,
we began to work together.
Like two ships,
we passed in all those endless nights,
drawn together in the quest
to drive away death
from this, the world of new life.

It seems like yesterday,
but six years have passed
since the day that I,
tears streaming down my face,
worked beside you,
always the professional,
trying to breath life
into that tiny, still body.
Two hours we worked,
before life finally succumbed to death
and you caught my tears
on your shoulder
in a friendly embrace.

We talked,
just two nights ago,
as I caught you,
whistling down the hall
on your rounds.
Never could I have guessed
I would never see you again.

You worked
with an entire building of professionals
all taught to recognize these things,
taught to look for the signs...
Yet not a single person knew
until last night;
when instead of driving to work,
you were driven
to the morgue.

~I'll miss you Ed
(It is with a heavy heart and tears in my eyes that I post this. The repiratory therapist on my shift, a talented professional, caring person and friend, hung himself last night. I had talked to him only the night before, never picked up on anything as did no one else. He was in his early 40's and leaves behind a wife and two school aged children. I ask that you just take a moment to pray for those he left behind...thank you.  Ruth)

Oh Ruth...I hate the way we lose so many people and we're so powerless to prevent it..

Wish I could hug you

Death is so hard, but when it comes this way it is worse. I'm so sorry for your loss. My prayers are for you, and the family he leaves behind. Special "HUGS" coming your way.

It's one of those sad facts of life that so many people take their lives during the holidays... maybe it's the contrast between the happiness they see everywhere and the despair in their own hearts.... Whatever the reason, their escape from their hell leaves a hell of grief and wondering for those left behind. My heart goes out to you, Ruth... but don't torture yourself asking why you didn't see the signs... people wear their masks so well. His family and co-workers will be in my prayers.

I can't offer anything different than what everyone else is offering.  I'm a strong believer in prayer and I will pray for you and his family. Keep your chin up dear...everything happens for a reason...don't forget that.  My heart goes out to you.

I can only add my prayers to the others. What can drive a man to leave behind a wife and children? I suppose we'll never know. They are the true victims. My thoughts will be for them.

Ruth hon, I'm so sorry you had to lose a friend this way.  Even sorrier for his family.  My prayers are for you all.  ((HUGS)) Ruth.
A lovely tribute for him.  Please email or icq if you need to talk hon..  I had a neighbour who committed suicide a couple of years ago, know all the feelings and questions.

The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there IS to celebrate.

My Lady Hoot... I can't imagine the desperation that leads one to such an act.  I think of my own wife and daughters and how such a selfish act would leave them in so much pain.  Truly beyond my comprehension. I'm sorry for their loss, as well as your own. May you all find the strength to cope and move beyond this sad time. My best to you and yours.

Please convey my deepest sympathy to this man's family, to you and to all the people at the hospital whose lives he touched. It's sad but this time of the year is the most active for suicides. People are trying to do too much, have too many debts and at the 'end' of a year, they are distressed about not achieving more or being a better person.

Please don't feel bad that you didn't see this coming. We cannot usually tell! All we can do is be kind and loving with everyone who comes in our path. Be forgiving and understanding and be available if someone wants to talk (gee, that does describe you Ruth!).

Ruth, my heart goes out to his family and friends.  By your poem, I can tell he will be missed.

How charged with punishments the scroll;
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Ruth, you are in my thoughts as well as his family...this is so sad...PdV said it best...I do believe people get overwhelmed around the holidays...and the end of another year.  I too have at times felt I've failed at what I had set out to do for the year...sometimes we just set our goals too high.  It's a shame really...You are in my prayers, as is his family.  Thank you for sharing...I know it was hard.

My prayers go out to the family my friend. My heart goes out to you! Understand that there was nothing that you could have done to stop this. No one is at fault but the one that committed the act. I will hold up you and the family in my thoughts and my prayers.

Hoot -
I sympathize with your feelings of loss.
I agonize for his wife.
I cry for his children.
I pray for his soul.
The masks worn often do not reveal
the desperate storms churning inside.
Love and comfort to you and his family.

Thank you everyone for your prayers. I am sure his family will appreciate them as much as I do. He was a kind caring man who always had a good word to say. I remember working side by side many a long night with him fighting for babies lives. He was a talented professional who knew his job well and a good friend. I will miss him.

No words can ease this loss, Ruth, but know that a faraway heart sends you strength.  I am sorry for your loss and the loss of the wife and family.  My prayers will remember all of you.

Dear Ruth,

I am so sorry for your loss and the loss of this mans family. I can unfortunately relate to what you might be feeling right now - a friend of mine committed suicide earlier this year. It is such an overwhelming shock and then there are always the why's and what if's. I pray for strength and courage and understanding in this awful time. Be kind to yourself.

I read this with deep sorrow, Ruth this is very sad and humbling, I am praying that God will send you peace and comfort and I pray for those childeren and the wife.
Having read this around Christmas should remind us all that it is the little things in life that counts and that it is not gifts that are bought, but gifts of the heart that we have everyday and take for granted.Memories and time spent with our loved ones are the best everyday gifts!
My heart and love goes out to you...GOd Bless you!
