My Friend You will be the last in a long line I will say goodbye to and then no more for my heart will not bear this pain. 'cause I know the inevitable decision lies in wait like a lion in the bush and I am a coward to his threat though I cannot stop it.... only anticipate that I have loved you no more no less than those before- yet knowing that you are the finale only intensifies the ache.... and I selfishly wish it on some other poor soul. I can understand that pain. It is sad when they go. Denise |

Exactly how I feel too ![]() I relate to this well, Robert...knowing that they won't always be with us is hard. But I have to stay away from the shelters..one look from those doggie eyes and I'm history. I'll get a dog and go home crying because I couldn't take the rest of them home too! It's not the love you fear, but the fall from the height~Edwin McCain |

Oh! I know how this feels! Its such a horrible pain to lose a dog. And to think that that is your last ... aww. My puppies right now are currently living 1200 miles away from me because they were mine, my brothers and his fiancee's and when I moved, they had to stay there. It is so sad, I actually cry everyday even though they are still quite well. Its just the pain of missing such wonderful friends!!! Good luck to you!! |

Couldn't agree more, Robert. I just went through this ordeal and have decided to wait until I'm old enough to know a puppy will outlive me before I get another one.....but then what will happen to him when I'm gone? |

In a way I am sorry this poem was understood by anyone. That way no one else would have felt this pain. I did cave in and go to the shelter a few weeks back........and came home with a dog!! She saw me and knew what a sucker I was and put on the "sad eyes" show. I couldn't resist. RB |

Good for you, RobertB. Good thing you put in the fact that you'd just gotten another loving pup. Be it mutt or pedigree, one can't have too many puppies. Well, if you can't stand the pain ... how about giving a dollar or two to help your shelter out! I've got four and hunger for more. That's what this loving heart is for. Like you, I've lost a few. They gave me more than they took. A wag of the tail when I come home, or that winsome little look! Just does it for me! ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |
