So this is it?
It’s over?
We go our separate ways?
There’s nothing more that we can do?
There’s nothing we can say?
"We did our best."
"Gave it our all."
Is this what you want to hear?
But this can’t account,
or try to heal
my heart and all its fear.
I’ve loved you from the day we met.
You’ve had my heart since then.
Yet now you’ve gone, thrown it away.
Tell me, what was my final sin?
Was it something I said or did?
Something I can’t make right?
Have I not loved you with all my heart?
Told you so each day and night?
And now you say it’s not me at all.
It’s me who shouldn’t want you.
After all this time, you tell me this now?
What did you expect me to do?
I gave you every part of me,
even parts that I’ve never seen.
And now you’ve gone and changed it all.
You’ve thrown away my dreams.
Just so you know, I have no regrets.
We can’t make up where we lack.
I’m moving forward, broken heart in hand.
And I’m never looking back.
So I guess I should thank you
for opening my eyes.
Not for what you did,
but what you didn’t do.
Because my time is too precious,
my life, worth too much,
to waste on the likes of you.

Wonderful work, Melissa. I can totally feel your frustration, anger, and pain in this piece. Geez, the things we put up with from some people. Good luck...

Wow, very emotional! But your right and your attitude is in the right direction. Forward.
I hope you feel better soon!!!

I agree...great attitude in this. I also feel the pain and sadness there too. Good poem, Melissa

Okay, this was a great poem.  I could totally relate, not cuz it was my feelings, but it was what my ex could say to me.  And I want to say to you, sometimes, things just aren't meant to be, but if we never take a chance, we'll never experience love...and 'tis better to have loved and lost than never loved at all', right?    Great work!
