Mother to my Father

My father has become a child.
I am an awkward daughter,
as I stumble by his time
and become more wise,
a mother not a daughter
to this man-child.

I kiss his sunken cheek
and push back a whimsy of hair
and think
he is too old to be so young.
I shift my eyes and look away
from the promise
of his hunched shoulders.

Oh, Martie! This is so very true. We end the way we begin...another cycle of life, I suppose.

How sad that they don't remain as young and strong as we remember them from our childhood. This has a melancholy feel to it. Very well done, Martie.
