The mountain stood within my sight With jagged peaks that reached so high They hid the twinkling stars at night Embedded in the summer sky. And, high upon the mountain's face Clear waterfalls cascaded down The side until they reached the base To water fruit trees in the ground. So held in awe, so struck was I By this stone monument I spied I bid my hill a fond farewell And journeyed to the mountain's side. But, as I stood there at the base, The mountain did not seem so high It's trees were barren, void of fruit And water falls ran dry. Then, as I stared into the nigh Across the lonesome valley floor, A mountain stood within my sight... The hill I'd known before. Now, sitting on that valley floor, I am forced to pay the cost For the hill that I thought mountainous And the mountain that I lost. |

Balladeer, this is lovely. Reminds me of the greener pastuures we all wish to graze in, then find barren and brown when we venture over. ------------------ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Balladeer, Very fine work here again, as always...(Please note there is not a single "cut" or "put down" associated with this response to this fine poet)...... [This message has been edited by Toerag (edited 11-11-1999).] |

Great work, 'Deer, but please tell me, was this a repost? I thought I had read this before...but I could be wrong. I just don't want to think I'm suffering from early stages of senility. ------------------ Sunshine Look, then, into thine heart, and write ~~~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow |

Sir Balladeer: Shadows of F1... I believe this was one of my earlier introductions to your work, a piece that begged me to seek out more of your fine poetry. Always a pleasure to read. |

My warm thanks to you all. Toerag, it has been duly noted. One thing that separates great witty people and others is knowing when to use it. You excel in that which makes you a real class act. LongJohn, you're right there with him. Sunshine and Andrew, yep, shades of the very early days of Open #1. Thank you for remembering. |

very good!! I am in awe of your use of such meter and rhyme. I used to do it that way so long ago...but abandoned it for the easy way!!! RB ------------------ if you can dream; you can fly...if you are flying; you are dreaming. |

This remains as beautiful as when you wrote it. Alison PS - yes, I am avoiding my lessons tonight. It's too hard (laughs). I'll work on it tomorrow. |

Thank you, Alison.. Yes, I know it is. The reward is in the effort and you are never short on that. Good luck! |
