More bright, by far, we knew we were
Than generations past
All times before us but a blur
Dark ages gone at last.

We simply were superior
How could one not agree
Minds prior just inferior
World's saviour we would be.

Fine words we spoke, pure gems of gold
Were treasures to be sure
Discarding tarnished trinkets old
We stomped them on the floor.

Invented peace and love, you know
To justice we gave birth
It wasn't all that long ago
Our truth would save the earth.

The lessons found in joy and strife
Can teach us many things
Time's classroom that is known as life
Humility it brings.

Experience bestowed its touch
Here's wisdom youth can glean
I didn't really know so much
...When I was seventeen.

(made a few changes and added a stanza)

Loved the poem, Denise. When I was 17 I thought I could whip the world with a broom straw. Now need broom straw to clean up the messes I've made. LOL

Denise .. a memory-shaker for sure.
At seventeen ... I couldn't wait to be twenty-two. And now ... I wonder where all those challenges went and if I met them ... and if I'd remember anyway !

Seventeen, yup, I think I was there once, let me get out my calculator. At seventeen I had to do all my counting on my fingers. Great poem Denise!

I loved this Denise. You did well at capturing the feeling of invincibility that runs rampant in teens! I'm 25 now. The other night I was fondly looking back to my teenage years when I wanted to make a difference in the world. Luckily, I have a job that allows me to do that with the teens I now work with. Great job!
