Woman~With~Tongue~That~Wags ~Marge Tindal~ 1999 In the Indian village there resides ... one who talks while others abide. They call her by the name Woman~With~Tongue~That~Wags, and so... they listen as she speaks and tells the tales of long ago. She is blessed with the tongue that the spirits come through. She chants the stories and they come alive for you. While others sit and listen, she opens her mind and her heart. The spirits of long ago enter, their wisdom to impart. Always in the telling she pauses to hear more ... the spirits wag her tongue it's what she is here for. She's revered for the stories, she shares long into the night. The spirits use her courage to reveal the stories told with might. She never lets us down when at the campfire we arrive. Woman~With~Tongue~That~Wags keeps the stories alive. When the fire burns down to just the glowing embers, Woman~With~Tongue~That~Wags ceases to remember. In slumber we rest knowing full-well ... tomorrow she will have other tales to tell. ------------------ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Handing down the stories through the generations is very important to me. This is wonderful, Marge. All cultures should have such a woman! ![]() ------------------ Denise |

When I saw the title, I was thinking of the community gossip... who unfortunately tells tales of a more destructive variety. *G* Great poem!! |

My ex-wife was a descendant of hers!!! The poem is great, Marge. Story telling is the oldest and richest tradition of passing down stories and traditions from generation to generation. In medieval times, it was carried out by minstrals and, of course, balladeers. |

Denise - Thanks, hon. I think all cultures do have a ~tongue~ ... it just ~wags~ differently. Like you, I enjoy the legends. Suthern - LOL ! We've all heard stories from those tongues, haven't we? Balladeer - You are such a rascal ! I'm sure 'her' stories would make the front pages of The Inquirer ! Now, seriously ... I've always loved the stories told in song by the minstrels and the balladeers. Sing to me ... I'm listening. ------------------ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

I will, Marge. It's not the right time yet. Minstrels go in cycles, you know. |

Very nicely written Marge. I can picture myself sitting there, eyes and ears wide open as the stories flow. |

LostBoy - Thank you. I can picture you joining with me at the campfire of the setting sun. Eyes and ears open ... learning the legends with us. Welcome to my campfire. ------------------ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |
