Whereas the amphibrachs, which we have now mastered fully, has the metric construction of da-DUM-da, the amphrimacer is the opposite, with the construction of DUM-da-DUM. Sounds easy enough, no? NO! You will find it much more difficult, which is one reason why it is encountered rarely in English. Some amphrimacer words are attitude- introduce - contraband. Some amphrimacer groups of words are word-of-God, passion's end, love's delight.

So...start your engines! Write a piece of verse consisting of nine-syllable amphimacer lines. Use either bold letters or capitals to point out which syllables are accented.

I'll be looking forward to seeing them....

Sorry Deer I couldn’t even get close, even digging out Tennyson’s “The Oak” didn’t help

Here I squeak decadent lies in lines
cast adrift, letters sunk, undermined
by the by-line “ I swear lines all lie!”

Turned around tales unwind words, deny
God enough pain in plain speech as pitch
black as bleak. Wordiness fails as weak
willed unwished gibberish, that is this.

Here  I squeak   dec a dent   lies  in lines

Turned  a round   tales  un wind   words , de ny

You gave it a good shot, grinch. There are some questionable accented syllables there and i have absolutely no idea what you said but I admire your innovation.

Ok, I did put the right poem in wrong place and I corrected that, so now I have to do some amphimacering. Geez, I can't even pronounce that stuff, let alone write it. LOL

Hey there Balladeer, my friend, I didn't know the workshop was up and running, again.
Gee, I bet I have missed alot. I am still working on perfecting the Iambic Pentemeter. LOL! Beginning to wonder if I will ever get it.

Hmmmm, this looks difficult, too. I've never heard of "amphibrachs".

You'll get it, Rose. Don't worry...

Alison...very good!!!! Clever and 95% correct.

Of course, the gold star remains with me until you convince me the word is SARcasTIC instead of sarCAStic. Having majored in  that in school, I think I may be right.

Yahoo!  Does this mean that I don't have to do a make up assignment on the extra poem I wrote that was a complete mess?

Okay, okay.  I am still playing with it.

[sighs]

Thank you, Balladeer, for keeping the lessons up.
