I know this is past the deadline so I don't expect any credit for it. But, honestly, the dog ate the paper the first time and I had to rewrite it. Then I left it in my shirt pocket and it got ruined in the laundry, etc, etc. Anyway, I guess it turned out to not be very funny after all. I once knew a girl with curled hair, Who, to me, was the fairest of fair; She became my dear friend But it all had to end; Now she's gone and I don't know where. And she was rare beauty to see, And she was attracted to me; So I gave it a go For I just didn't know That in fact, it never could be. Alas she was wed to a guy, Who was twenty years younger than I, Who gave her nice toys And two beautiful boys, But sometimes he would make her cry. And a goddess I always called her, For my joy in her smile and her laughter; I could never be mad, And would always be glad If just given the chance to be near her. Bewitched by her eyes of gray-blue, And the sound of her sultry voice too, And the touch of her hand -- You must understand -- How I loved her then ... And still do. And that smile that she always wore, That I couldn't help but adore, Always gave me a thrill As my heart it would fill With happiness, and so much more. Maybe somewhere in life there may be A short time for her beside me, But I don't see a way For it soon -- like today -- So I'll patiently wait and see. This poetic limerickal saga sounds pretty good for someone who professes not to be a poet, don't ya think??? |
