OK - I've got a couple of requests from the Passions Gallery..

Vicky has asked for "Tyburn" and/or "Monorhyme" this month, and barbaraj has asked about "Triolet." I think we can do both, can't we? Here's what we're looking at.

TYBURN

A tyburn is a six line poem with a set syllable count. The first four lines rhyme and are all descriptive words. The last two lines rhyme and incorporate the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th lines as the 5th to 8th syllables. The structure is:

line 1 - 2 syllables
line 2 - 2 syllables
line 3 - 2 syllables
line 4 - 2 syllables
line 5 - 9 syllables
line 6 - 9 syllables

Here are some samples...

As for
MONORHYME

Plain and simply - This format is poetry that has ALL the same end rhyme.

Here's Vicky's contribution...

Tragedy of Comedy

Comedy - the face you see
Tragedy - Reality
Outwardly, conveying glee
Inwardly, needing set free
Mirror image mockingly
Reflects the true identity
One glance and it successfully
Unveils a hidden mystery
Time goes by and silently
The role is played, though painfully
Only rest from tragedy
To don the mask of comedy

Then we've got
TRIOLET

A poem or stanza of eight lines in which the first line is repeated as the fourth and seventh lines, and the second line as the eighth, with a rhyme scheme of ABaAabAB - The capital letters in the rhyme scheme above indicate the repetition of identical lines.

This one should be light, easy, and fun... Here's a very special one I just happened to have lying around - written by... somebody very special..

A Valentine is just a thought
Made special for a single day.
No matter what we've all been taught,
A Valentine is just a thought,
Whose words will often come to naught
If we delay too long to say:
A Valentine is just a thought
Made special every single day.

That ought to give us a few choices, eh?

Let's have some fun with this one, m'friends...

Hmmmm...never been brave enough to venture in here, but I just might give this TRIOLET type poem a shot. That is, if I can get my meds to cooperate and let my brain remember in the morning that I want to try this.

I too 'might' be back.  Marti

Oooh, I'm definitely giving at least the tyburn a try; probably all of them will get tried *grin*

"Teach"
If time will allow,I too shall cast my my line into the pool of enlightenment, forsaking the safety of the shore, to wade deep in it's refreshing waters, and perhaps, to learn.

Teacher Nan, I've got a
Triolet (with 10 syllable lines) posted here...... /pip/Forum81/HTML/001118.html

But I'm going to have to do a lot more practice
on the Tyburn. Whew. Those look really hard.
