Lyra: This is a very touching poem. It caused me to reflect upon the birth of my own little boys and think about how they've changed me. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and evoking my own. Jim |

Hey Lyra, I was engrossed in the stresses of being born as seen through the eyes of the mother. But wait! It also told of the stresses of giving birth as seen through the eyes of the newborn. A fascinatingly interwoven tale. Then I got to the dedication and it really got to me. This truly was a beautiful tribute to your son. It must be a hard thing to outlive one's offspring. Thanks for sharing. Thanks, Pete |

Thanks so much for your reply, Jim... Every year, since his death... I have written something for Eric on his birthday and also on the anniversary of the day he died. This year, my muse seemed to have been on vacation. I was going to write something about his whole life...and I started with his birth... and then it came to me, that the poem solely about his birth would be much more meaningful on his birthday... I'm glad that it has given you some cause to reflect on your own children's births. ![]() Lyra |

Thanks so much for your reply, Sue... I couldn't even answer these until now because I just had to get away from this poem for a couple of days... The reminders of his death were just tied too tightly to it... although I did answer the replies to it on Open 22... and I probably should have waited because I had nightmares that night... ![]() Lyra |

Thanks so much, Pete... Eric died over 2 years ago and I still can't believe that he's not here... He was my little alien... ![]() Lyra |

Thanks so much, Bridget... It was really difficult to write this poem... I had to dig down really deep into my soul to pull these words out. ![]() Lyra |

Madame Chipmunk, My condolences on your loss. I really liked your comparison to aliens. While I never really looked at it that way, I guess we're all alien to this world . Some of us never quite out-grow that feeling. Doc |

Isn't becoming a mother just the most unique of experiences that life could possibly offer? I think your 'alien' analogy is wonderful... They come to us from another realm - and we proceed to 'humanize' them from that day on... Having met Victor, I know that Eric was a wonderful person, Lyra - You have been blessed... Hugs.. ![]() |

Thanks so much, Doc... We may start out as aliens... but I think this world adopts all of us as it's own, soon enough. ![]() Lyra |

Thanks so much, Nan... and what a nice thing to say about Victor.... I'll tell him you said that. I think that being born into this world probably feels so very strange to newborn babies... and they do look like little aliens when they're first born, don't they? And yes, becoming a mother is one of the most exhilerating experiences one can have... Men don't know what they are missing out on... ![]() ![]() Lyra |
