Trochaic Tetrameter? Cleaned my room here out today, did a job quite well I'd say Now I'm tired looking 'round, all things out of place I've found Need a drink, a large one too, writing down this verse for you Month of June quite near it's end, still no class have I attend Iambic Dimeter? Dimeter tried No thing in mind Insane I was I must be blind Anapestic Trimeter? Yes, it took for me all day and night I will not give it up, it's not bright The trimeter is tough and I sigh Say "I like it" would be a darn lie Dactylic Trimeter? Back to the meter that I like the best Resting my case here when you do the rest Not in the corner for flunking Nan's class Back to my room where I'll make some more mess ________________ Well, I tried and you tell me what it is I've created LOL A rose is a rose is a rose...I guess... Check out my new website: lookheretitia.fcpages.com (I didn't 'link' this, so it won't take too much space).I |

Titia , Well, I am having a lot of trouble with this too. I think that what is happening is that when we write poetry, we tend to stress syllables that are not normally stressed. Our Iambs get all out of whack, and then people have a tough time following the ryhthm. You've done a good job, it just needs a little work. Doc |

Well, Titia, you certainly put out a good effort and manage to keep your humor intact while doing it!!! Few people can write with your charm... |

Darn! I've always been a sucker for apples! OK, Titia, let's go.... Trochaic Tetrameter ------------------- It's not. It's heptameter (7 feet, 14 syllables). Eliminate that by breaking the lines in two after the seventh syllable. As far as the trochaic: "Now I'm tired looking 'round"...the bold syllables are accented....kills the trochaic. The rest is fine, except for the fact that "have attend" is improper English. Iambic Dimeter --------------- Bad luck here, Titia. It would be fine except that dimeter has the accent on the first syllable (something many Americans don't know, either). The rest is fine. Anapestic Trimeter ------------------ Excellent! The word trimeter shot you down for the same reason as dimeter...the accent is on the first syllable. Dactylic Trimeter ------------------ Well, we will have to call it three feet with a toe, since you have 10 syllables, which include 4 accented ones. The dactylic and the anapestic feet are comprised of three syllables per foot. All in all, I think you did very well. You took on the challenge of trying to write in all four styles and I think it was an excellent effort. I applaud your desire to learn and your eagerness to try to learn....hat's off to you, Dutchie |

Wow, Titia. I'm impressed with your efforts here. I'm in the back row watching the smart students get it down. I am inspired! Thanks for showing me how it's done. Shenachie |
