Ok, I don't think I can write a pantoum. But teacher said we should sprinkle in some limericks because of the "Irish nature" of this month. So I'll just take the easy way out and do that. These are my efforts for the month. It’s been said we’re all Irish I hear, Especially at this time of year. If you wear something green Then it just might be seen As your duty to drink all that beer. It’s interesting what one can say In a limerick on St. Patrick’s day. So would I be remiss If I asked for a kiss? Or would it just cause a big fray? I once knew a girl with red hair Who was surely the fairest of fair; She became my dear friend But it all had to end; Now she’s gone and I don’t know where. They say limericks are often risqué In their words as well as their way Of relating the rude, In a language that’s crude, Their immoderate tale to portray. And just what is the goal of the poet Who composes but never will know it? He just scribbles in ink As he tries hard to think Of some suitable verses to show it. |

Pete, I do believe your limericks will pass the first test, but I do believe, since so many of us have studied and tried so hard...that you must put your pen, and mind, to a pantoum, as well. We wouldn't want to see you flunk the course... [This message has been edited by Lady In White (03-18-2002 04:55 PM).] |

Not a Poet--What a misnomer! Loved your limericks--actually, limericks with literary merit! Methinks that pantoums would be a snap for you. I've just written one--but I found that the further I got into it, the easier it got. Now I'm thinking about No. 2, and I'm still a bit intimidated. Whoops! Looks like I have committed myself. Of course you can write a Pantoum Pete! Knowing some of your poetry I know you can! I wish I could get my brain into the limerick mode. They're so much fun to do and yours are not only great, they're fun too! |

Thank you ladies. You are much too kind. I just haven't been able to get my head into pantoum mode for some reason. I guess they just look too hard. But there have been so many outstanding ones posted that I don't think mine will be missed. Pete |
