Hey guys... I can't spend much time here till Thursday - I've got a diversive project that'll be taking my time for the next couple of days... But Alliteration, Assonance, and Onomatopoeia don't take a whole lot of explanation - So let's just get into writing some fun poetry. Understanding each of these devices is all that's necessary in this workshop anyway. Let's not set any rules on the format of our poems. Alliteration is simply the repetition of consonant sounds in verse. "Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers"..... It doesn't have to be every word in a line - just enough to set a repetitive pattern. Assonance is the repetition of vowel sounds within verse. "Tall feet, short feet/Feet, Feet, Feet/How many different feet you meet" Onomatopoeia is the use of words that are spelled much like they sound. Pop - Bang - Woof - Meow - Moo - Woosh - and all those great "Batman" words...ZONK!!! I'll be back Thursday - and I'll post my "Cellar Dwellers"...... and hopefully some new stuff too... Let's see yer stuff, my friends........ [This message has been edited by Nan (edited 06-07-2000).] |

An Aberration of Assonance in Kalamazoo? Few knew that Sue grew a slew of bamboo in a large blue shoe, on the steps of the zoo. And when she was through she mixed it with glue, creating a stew that smelled like a loo, which she fed to a cow who had started to moo, when it leaned through the fence seeking something to chew. This story is true, but I haven’t a clue why the shrew brewed the stew in plain view of the zoo! Do you? |

Hi Nan, I have tried a couple of these, is this where I post my examples? Sorry still don't know my way around yet! Somberly She Sits in Shadows/ Alliteration? Sally Smith should smile sometimes, she seems so sad and shy, sneaking peeks at strangers strolling slowly by. Strangers singing silly songs beneath a summer sky she simply sits in solitude and shivers with a sigh. Her spirit is so sorrowful so singular is she surrendering, her shoulders slump against society. |
