Welcome - to the new Passions in Poetry Workshop. With so many of our resident poets expressing an interest in learning more about the craft of writing poetry, we just simply had to oblige. So - here we are with a plan in motion.

Our intent is to begin a new workshop on the first and fifteenth of each month (except it's the 3rd already). Each one will concentrate on a specific format, while touching upon rhyme schemes and imagery appropriate for that poetic structure.

We can work with a maximum of ten poets per session. The first few sessions are scheduled to coincide with Poet deVine's challenges... We do need to give her a run for her money, don't you think?

If you are interested in participating, I ask that you email me as soon as possible with your choice of session(s) so that I can post the class rosters. Then you'll know which sessions have space available. As we open each new workshop, I'll post some introductory comments and suggestions for that session - If you're in that class, you'll then write and post a poem following those guidelines. Then we'll go to work to edit and refine your work (until it rivals the classics)... We'll critique each other's works, and learn lots.....

When all is "written and done", we'll take all of your perfect works of art and post them in the main forums - or perhaps on the main Passions site for posterity...... Sound good???... Let the fun begin...

Could you expound on the reason there is a limit on the size of the class? Thanks.

...Certainly, PdV...

These sessions will be structured very much like an offline classroom - We'll be working hard on the "total" poem - not just rhyme schemes and meter... That takes time. It's a multi-step process, with perhaps several drafts (before completion of a poem) for each participant.

We'll be critiquing each other's work - and I will be spending extensive time with each one individually. This adds up to a LOT of time over the course of the two weeks.

The good news is that each workshop and its progress will all be posted here on the forum and will always be available for everyone to study and learn. Anyone can come in and comment at any time. The only restrictions will be that the poetry postings can be made only by current participants.

These guidelines aren't etched in stone. If it happens that we need to change our structure - then change we shall!!

Any other questions??? Ask away...

Well, it's about time....hehe,
hey if the class doesn't fill up but I'm sure it will,
I would love to sit in on the villanelle.

Nan,
Why is it I can already feel the excitement going on here? Good luck and make'em sweat!!!!! I plan to 'sit in' on the lessons for now but if you keep this going, I want to join (I'm a constant student and I love arguing with my teacher ).

I encourage all poets to watch this forum. Even if you're not interested in 'form' poetry, you can can learn tricks to make your own verse better.

Give'em hell Nan,
Brad

UGH. I hate time restraints [mine own, on me...] May I just sit in and watch [er, read], Professor Nan, as I have time?
