It has been brought to my attention that we have a problem. Some of the poets have pointed out a problem with multi-postings. We all have limited time to read and reply to posts as well as post our own works. Some of our members have become frustrated with the number of poems some poets post at once. This practice maks it difficult for us to read all the works posted on the board. My sugestion is this. I would like you to limit your poems to Two per day. That way we can read and reply to all or most of the poems posted. We all want to receive numerous replies to our work but multiple postings make this difficult. The more we reply to others and the less we overwhelm the board the more replies we will receive. I would like to hear your thoughts on this. This is not a rule but a suggestion to make our forum run smoothly. Thanks, Marilyn. |

Sounds good to me, course it doesnt really pertain to me, seeing as I only write one poem every 4 days or so, and I post them up immediately upon completion. I am not a poet, I am merely one who speaks in emotion |

Well, you know how I feel about this Marilyn. I strongly agree with the limmited posting of ones works. I also would like to bring up the subject of replys to ones work. If you would like a ton of resonse on your work, try replying to other peoples. People are then compeled to look and comment on your work. I see to many people just posting thier poems and asking "Why donsen't my poem get comments?" Other then that, thank you for making this topic visible Marilyn. I just edited this because I wanted to send it back to the top of the list so people take the time to read it and comment. [This message has been edited by Jer (edited 01-17-2000).] |

Thaknyou both for replying to this issue. There is one other item I would like to bring up for discussion. The way we get peoples attention is by replying to their work but also by interaction. This is an interactive board and in order for us to get to know eachother we need to continue communication. We need to continue to go back to work or discussion topics so that they flow freely and the relationships don't just die with one post. I know time restriction play a major role in our relationships on this board but we can try. I find when I offer to give advice or help to an author I do not hear back possitively or negatively. A simple response to a response would be a nice touch. It is a way to create friendships and conversation. What do the rest of you think of this idea? |

Heres my response to a response! But seriously, I reply to those who reply to my poetry, im my latest thread, 2 of the 7 replys are mine, responding to questions the readers had. I personally thrive off getting responses and being able to talk back to the admirers of my poetry. I post to others poetry when I have time and am touched by the poetry they write. I am not a poet, I am merely one who speaks in emotion |

Thank you Marilyn, for bringing this to attention. The idea of 2 posts a day is a great one and I agree completely. As for responding to others, the more you respond, the more you'll be responded to, it's as simple as that folks! I personally turn away from poems that say "please read" or "post replies" because I feel it's rude. If you just return the favor that you're looking for, you'll begin to see good results yourself! Do keep this in mind. *Krista Knutson* ~*Like a lion, without fear of the howling pack, Like a gust of wind, ne'er trapped in a snare, Like a lotus blossom, ne'er sprinkled by water, Let me, like a unicorn, in solitude roam.*~ Hymn Of Buddha |

marilyn: i completely agree, and as an amendment to this post, might i suggest that we do our best to inform those who continue to make multiple posts (and may not have read this string) of these thoughts (if they are, indeed put into practice)... i've long felt this way, but i find it hard to play the "bad guy" and ask someone to limit their posts... i'm glad you suggested this, i think it will make the forum a richer experience for all of us... and i, certainly, will do my part in replies to the poems posted... sincerely, jerome the boy with the front-door ice sculpture A savage place! as holy and enchanted As e'er beneath a waning moon was haunted By woman wailing for her demon-lover! ~Coleridge |

Jerome...I have in the past, e-mailed authors who continually multi-post. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. this has been an issue discussed between the moderators and the members of the board for some time. The best thing we can do is ingore the offending poet. Reply to one poem in the string of poems that they post. They will soon get the hint when thier poems slide in to oblivian with none or few replies. This is something we all have had to learn when we came to the board. Lets be tolerent and try to educate. (hint...if we suggest they post fewer poems all at once in our reply to the one poem we do reply to *whew what a mouthful!* they might learn faster) |

The way I usually do it is I scan the forum, and anyone with more than 3 posts, I dont respond to their poetry, unless it is something special that has been kept there for a few days by responses(not from the author). If the person in question happens to have a lot of poems, I usually dont even read them. I dont even usually post a new poem until my current one has slipped off the first page, so that each poem of mine has its time in the sun, without being overshadowed by new ones. Just a few thoughts to give to those who post a little too emphatically. I am not a poet, I am merely one who speaks in emotion |

mistikman & marilyn: actually i used an approach similar to the two of yours combined... my only problem with the "ignore" policy is that it doesnt fix the problem of the poems of those that abide by the policy sliding quickly off the forum and into "poetry limbo" without any (or very few) responses... i just hope something can be done to help correct the problem when it arises... sincerely, jerome the boy with no brain A savage place! as holy and enchanted As e'er beneath a waning moon was haunted By woman wailing for her demon-lover! ~Coleridge |

Well, you dont think I reveal all my secrets do you? Whenever I see a poem near the bottom with 0 or 1 reply and the author hasnt spammed the forum, I usually rescue the poem and bring it back up to the top. I am not a poet, I am merely one who speaks in emotion |

YOU TELL 'EM!!! I think we should be limited to 1 a month, just so we can see everybodys writtings and read them all, or i have a better idea, put a new filtering prog in to keep us from submitting but one every 2 months unless we have read and responded to atleast 12 of the submittions. I think that would go over really well and keep us all from wasting all our great poetry all at once without learning from everyone else "Which is the dream?" hoppy: i dont think they have the html codes to do things like that... anyway, i think all it will really take is a little bit of self-control, a little dose of humility, and a tiny bit of respect on the behalf of each of the members here to make this poetry forum what we know it can be... i, for one, am willing to do my part... so hoppy, take up your banner and get in line and help make this place a more pleasant experience for all of us... sincerely, jerome the boy with no brain A savage place! as holy and enchanted As e'er beneath a waning moon was haunted By woman wailing for her demon-lover! ~Coleridge |

psst hoppy...I read 'em all!! It is part of my job discription. I even read them more then once so I can monitor the replies. I do not reply to all of them because I am a writer and it I were to read and reply to everything I would never have time to write. This is the reason I am asking for another moderator. My time is spent mostly here and I am burning out. The solution you suggest would kill any interest in the forum. We need to get all of the members to participate fully and respect eachother so that all of our jobs are easier. The number of replies do not indicate the quality of the poem. I reply to the ones that strike me in some way. If I think the author could improve with some advice or if I can help shed another perspective or simply because of the lack of replies. There is always a reason I reply to someones work. Being a moderator is not always a fun job. When I have been away from the forum for a few days, I spend an entire evening here reading, replying, editing and moving threads. There are times when I have nothing in my brain left to say. I am sure Krista has the same problem. We all need to work together to make this a wonderful place to post poetry and to make friends. |

I'm kinda new here and I don't write much just when the feelings get to be too much so I haven't posted very many and will try in the future not to exceed more than 2 poems and i think it's a great idea. I also agree with the responding, though i never really know what to say about someones poem, but i try, also i have 2 poems that have only been responded to twice and so i've been thinkin their not that good, they are under my sisters name though so check them out...Forgotten and Why Me? under sweetcollege_girl...thanx all. |

Hey Everyone!! I know this comes from way back but I reckon it deserves to be bumped up because the problem is still in evidence. I guess that's cos the forum grows so rapidly that it's hard to know which members are aware of what! Well, I hope this gets read and taken to mind! Thanks to all who read! Hmmm... yes, a very good idea indeed. well, I usualy don't post more than one or two poems, and most of mine are nice and short anywho, or two in one post if they are the same kinda deal/for the same person. But yeah, I can live with this, seeing as how I do oh love to read as much of the work as I can. "Sa souvraya niende missian ye." \ I am lost in my own mind. I think that everybody needs to send ten replies before they send a poem, people that just post new poems and don't reply, don't need to be here. natalie... |

Thanks Marilyn for bringing this subject up. I couldn't agree more with everyone on their comments on this. It does become quite annoying when you see many pieces of work by one person in here in only one day....and then they ask for them all to be replied to. Two poems a day could be a really good thing to do. ~AF~ "Poetry is the language in which man explores his own amazement." Christopher Fry |

I am glad to see that other people view this as a problem. I have seen this issue raised many times and really, nothing can be done about it. We moderators send e-mail telling the person flooding the forum of a more appropriate way of posting. However, I have been sitting back and just reading the poetry lately because of the extreme amount of overtime at work and it's nice to see the forum work as a family and I hope it continues to run this way.
