Tears for her lover

I watched their love blossom and grow
Just watching, but it was enough
But now I am not watching love anymore
I’m just watching pain and confusion
How can this pain possibly be right?
She is so sad, he is so angry
They don’t speak, they won’t talk
Only pain her companion through the long day
And she once tried to tell me how she was feeling
“It’s like when I see him, a knife in my stomach
And when we talk, the knife starts to twist
And when he smiles, it reaches my heart
And when we touch, it goes through”
And she looked at me funny, and cried

I have just one question that springs to my mind
For after all, it’s not my pain
But was it worth it, the year of happiness?
Was all this pain offset by love?
And yet, as she cries
The tears run down her face,
She looks at me strangely
“Worth it?” she asks, an incredulous expression on her face “worth it?
I would have gone through all of this,
This suffering and tears and pain,
For one second with me in his arms
For one moment of love in his eyes
Aimed at me”

Now I have watched them for quite awhile
I saw them happy, and I saw them sad
Saw their triumphs and smiles and tears and pain
Grow bigger, grow smaller, be kinder, be crueler
And what of it all?
Was there some point? Was there some gain?
I couldn’t tell you, for I don’t know
But though I could always just watch,
Just sit on the sidelines and cheer
I don’t think I will
Cuz some day, somewhere,
No matter the price
I want to see love in someone’s eyes
Aimed at me.

This poem is beautiful...I love it! And I can say, love is a thing like nothing else on earth......that is the only way I can describe it.

Welcome to Passions. To feel the love you discribe in your poem is worth the pain. For without pain you will never truely know love. Well done.
