This poem was written about my friend Bill. He died Saturday in an Auto accident. Please pass this along, if it can save one person it's done the job! Remember us as childhood friends? Smiling, laughing, fighting and making amends? Remember how our biggest fear, Was the teacher we'd have next year? We grew up, or so we thought. We went to junior high, and skipped school more often than not. I used to eat your pizza, it tasted so much better than mine. Or maybe it was just cause I didn't want to stand in the lunch line! High school came, Neither of use really stayed the same. We drifted apart, All because new friendships and relationships were getting their start. We didn't talk for awhile, you and me, I had someone else you see . . . When that someone else came to an end, My tears you had to contend. We laughed about teachers, That new girls ugly features. We partied together, Usually woke up the next morning under the weather. Last Saturday you went to your friends, I wish before that you and I had made amends. You played a video game, Since that night my life has not been the same. You left shortly before you had to be home, Decide to go for a drive on your own. Drove blindly through the curbs, The back roads, not the suburbs. Wanted to see how fast your car could go, Definitely gave us all a show. You dad rushed to the accident not knowing it was his boy, That was the day out of our lives rushed the joy. We skipped school on Monday, Spent it pretty much the same as Sunday. Crying our eyes out, Not knowing whether to scream or shout. Marc and I put flowers on the accident site, Gave it a last rite. You may have gotten your first kiss, But there is so much you will miss. You will miss your prom, Lying to your mom. Failing a class, And for it, kicking yourself in the *ss Monday night, We went to see your body - I cried at the site. Matt cried with me, I can't imagine for him what a pain this must be, You went into the ground yesterday, There you will lay. You didn't have on your seatbelt, They say. It's too late for you, But it's not too late for others and me too. We're still here, So it appears. This is my plea I hope others will hear, Don't drive so fast, the end might be near. Put on your seat belt, even if it's not cool, At least you'll be one who's alive to graduate from school. By: Crystal Ryan [email protected] "The worst of what people do to one another is deceive. Because when you love someone you control their version of reality. If you lie to them that's like making them autistic so that what they believe is reality is in fact, not their true situation at all." It's not the angry words that break the heart, it's the silence. Someone said that true love is like a ghost -- often spoke of but never seen. I've seen both and yet in my darkest hours, tend to believe that neither exits. |

To all -- Thanks for the great replies. I miss Bill so much, but am finding that writing makes me feel better. I'm writing a dedication for him in our yearbook, something I'm looking at with equal anticipation and dread. Thanks for reading, if the message can save one life it'll do the trick. Again thanks fo the replies, and I may just take some of you up on the offer of E-mail! Love, Crystal [email protected] "The worst of what people do to one another is deceive. Crystal, I know this was hard to write about but I'm glad you did. So many young people are killed in car accidents from not putting on seat belts. My daughter survived a very bad accident because she had on her seat belt. I work with the Safe Kids Coalition and our primary focus is to heighten awareness of the importance of wearing seat belts. I'm hoping that your very sad and sincere poem will appeal to all who read it that life is too precious to throw away in a careless moment of being irresponsible. Thanks for posting this poem. |

Danny, It's great that there are organizations out there like the one you work with that heighten awareness about seatbelts. Bill was being completely irresponsible andwearing that seatbelt may have saved his life. If that were the case, his biggest fear would be his dads wrath after he wrecked the car ![]() -- Crystal "The worst of what people do to one another is deceive. I wanted to tell you how much your peom made me think about one of my friends and how easily it could be him instead of Bill. And to also tell you that I admire you for you courage to write something so heartfelt and for having the will to help others avoid the same situation.. way to go & God Bless... Crystalina- This is incredibly touching and at the same time, so heartbreaking. I applaud you for your work here. It must be horrible to have lost someone in such a cruel way. I wish you and everyone else involved the best. *Krista Knutson* As soon as man does not take his existence for granted, but beholds it as something unfathomably mysterious, thought begins. ~*Albert Schweitzer*~ |

To all- Well, it's been over a week since Bills death. We all miss him dearly. It's funny, but when you think of death, you think of the person dead -- not those left behind to survive. Please everyone be careful out there. Thanks for the great replies, I;m glad everyone read it! Love, Crystal "The worst of what people do to one another is deceive.
