Listening to every heart

Elder Speak

A little time disconnects us, oh my Elder dear,
I duly share with you now all my hopes and fears
for you have reached an age and solemn wisdom wise
may you now answer my repeated “how’s” and “why’s.”

Though you may not speak, nor nod your graying head
I’ll garner your gifted wisdom before I seek my bed,
that you have in your experience, and know there be par none,
for I shall not rebuild proved wheels, less they be undone.

In your hands I lay my fears of life that lies ahead,
to you I bare my heart, my soul’s torn tears now shed,
through your stories I listen, learn, map my own road home,
from you I value great your thoughts deep within your dome.

Your words are truly gifts, none finer I’ve ever sought
for declarations made by you can only thus be taught;
oh Elder one, wise and aged, take me in your care,
reveal to me your treasures fine, treasures that are rare.

Now the wind is at my back, time leads the sun to dusk
withered hands shaped your words, body brittle, emptied husk,
your former life gives shape to mine, a treasure trove is bound;
Pray you sire, be it known in your love of life, my soul’s re-found.

And promise now, in deep October winds, as you lay your head,
revelations from deep within will stand within your stead.
As young ones come to me, your wisdom will common bond
as aged be I, thus share with them, truth Elder once leaned on.

Thank you Caroline, Pepper and Hoot. I love it best when the thoughts for pieces are "just there...", don't you?

I second Michael..(and the others), very good work gal.....After I die and I'm reincarnated, I'm gonna be able to write like this! (Then again, I may come back as a bug or something, and yanno that would give Balladeer something to be really happy about).

Michael, having you drag this from the archives really lifted my spirits,

and Toe, I know your words are more profound than some folks think,

so thank you both for reading, and commenting.
