It Ain't All About You, Baby

He mused, preparing to explain,
"Are you not pleased with your surprise?"
At once, she started to complain
to whine up, loudly to the skies
her oft rediculous refrain
about all lovers and their lies...
to himself, he thought, just maybe
it ain't all about you, baby!

It had started out much better,
with them cooing at each other's
little tidbits nought would fetter,
about their passion's heated druthers.
Then he decided he would let her
have the say both dad's and mother's,
to himself, he thought, just maybe
this ain't all about you, baby!

Relationships sometimes wander
in paths unknown to either friend,
yet, they both the future squander,
before full bloom, a bitter end.
Tho his wish in love to bond her,
a return she could never send,
to himself, he thought, just maybe
that ain't all about you, baby!

Deciding to be on his way
to greener pastures he might find,
he allowed her a final say,
a parting chance to speak her mind.
Her sad response was to display
questions still, about ties that bind;
to himself, he thought, just maybe
life ain't all about you, baby!

I like this - it flows very well and I can see it set to music. Great work!

I could see this as a song too, perhaps because of the refrain that is repeated. It read so true and natural like a good poem should. More please.
