I thought about you yesterday- As I drove by the road- That leads up to the shady plot Where you make your abode. I thought of how I met you- At the Fairgrounds that July- And how you looked so pretty In white while passing by. Your blue eyes and your golden locks Quite took my breath, you see- That innocent and sparkling smile That you bestowed on me. What joy and heartache lay ahead We neither one could know- You were a rancher's daughter- I chased the rodeo. I wooed you and I won you- I even won your Dad- I guess that I'll admit though I gave it all I had. We married in September- I had to miss two shows- And that is quite a sacrifice- For one who rodeo's. You told me then in April When flowers are so gay- "There's a little cowboy, Or cowgirl on the way." The summer passed so quickly I rode well this is true; But we began to worry When the child was overdue. My world just seemed to shatter- I knew the news was bad- The motel phone was ringing The caller was your Dad. He had to start a time or two- His was a broken tone- Said, "Son, I hate to tell you- But our little girl is gone." He told me of the bleeding- They couldn't get to stop- The wild drive to the Doctor But they couldn't find the Doc. And as your face grew paler- Before the passing came- You told him that you loved me- Kept calling out my name.... The preacher at the funeral- As preachers always do- Said you were in a better place I hope that that is true. If I had known how brief our time How soon that you would go- I'd have been home with you my dear And quit the rodeo. But I'm still going down the road My hair is getting grey- I hate the place without you there- I thought of you today. ------------------ Live large, people! ~GS~ |

I am sitting here crying like a baby with this one, I only hope that these words are not spoken of real life and if they are, my heart goes out to you |

If this poem is of, you, I too am terribly sorry. Beautiful, yet heartbreaking piece. ------------------ "Despite all my rage, I am still just a rat in a cage." -Billy Corgan- |

I am also terribly sorry if this is a true life experience....sorrowfully beautiful. ------------------ *Krista Knutson* Wise is he who faces the frailty of man with the strength of an understanding heart. -- Daniel L. Miller |
