Enemy of my Heart

The night was once my ally
Bringing you closer to me
Under cover of darkness.

Our voices
Lowered to a whisper.
Hushed tones over phone lines.
Intimate conversations
While the world slept.

When you were just a voice,
Twilight was my friend.
The cloak of night
Kept the dawn at bay,
Where reality waited.

You are now my reality,
No longer a fantasy in my mind.
And nightfall taunts me,
Reminding me that you are no longer
Here.

How did she turn on me?
Moonlight dances across my walls
Casting shadows on the
Empty side of my bed
Where you once laid.

Midnight has become
An enemy of my heart.

How charged with punishments the scroll;
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Midnight has always been a turning point for me. Interesting point of view you have here, though it is well written and said.

Tara, I really feel this one strongly. I especially like the third stanza, it packs a punch.....
