It’s funny how a simple phrase can cut one’s heart so deep.
And those who speak so callously sow only what they reap.
Like endless circles in the sand of an hourglass that’s turned.
Words that fall from hateful mouths can leave a child burned.

They in turn will regurgitate the hateful words they hear.
Hurtful phrases fall from mouths and leap from ear to ear.
Be careful what you say to them the innocence of youths
can be forever damaged by your mean verbal abuse.

Tread softly on emotions of a child as they grow.
For you my friend are being watched, their idol don’t you know?
And they will grow to copy you in all you say and do.
You can stop the cycle.. let only kind words come from you.

Oh Lucie...this is beautiful, and with such a powerful message to boot....I know what you speak of....sometimes when the day gets hectic, and we're short on time, with all the hustle and bustle, our kids tend to get pushed aside...and we even say things we don't mean, even the tone we use can break their hearts...As a parent myself, when I feel myself "taking it out on them" I make myself go somewhere and just breathe....a time out if you will, because our mouths can do unrepairable damage to a tender, trusting heart. Thank you for sharing....***curtsies Sorry, didn't mean to preach....(grin)

Lucie, this is so very true and well said. Parents must be made aware what their words and actions do to their children who look up to them. Sadly, many don't. This is the most meaningful poem I've seen from you. Thank you.

Lucie: So true, can be the making or the downfall of us, sadly!
