STARGAZER

Imagine in mind as I will in verse
All the stars of the universe.
Shining bright through the vastness of space,
In symmetric harmony and grace.
Majestic mystery in multitude.
A red and blue romantic interlude.
Projecting promise with prominence,
In a twinkling aura of omnipotence.

Look closer now, let's pick just one,
One solitary sibling sun.
From the realm of time, space, and dimension
Unexercised by human apprehension.
An incandescent, gleaming glare.
A glowing white and red pocket of air.
Giving warmth and light and life and love,
Gliding boldly through the sky above.

Look closer now, beyond this star.
To where we watch it from afar.
Exquisite splotches of green and blue,
Proffer such a delicate, peaceful hue.
Round and round and round she goes,
Where she stops, nobody knows.
Lost in the merriment and mirth
Of our beloved planet Earth.

Look closer now, into the awestruck eye
Of a child staring, blindly, at the sky.
A billion celestial bodies ablaze fashion
A brilliant spectacle of inspiring passion.
But how long till he begins to ponder
And the innocence begins to wander.
Till the days one by one pass him by
Without so much as a glance to the sky.

Till every night in dark discord
He heralds dispassion's reward.
Till demands and deadlines of life disperse
The very wonder of this universe.

Wow.
The only word I can find to fit this is majestic.
Awesome, awesome work, Michael.

Heavenly. I wonder how many people saw the tragedy at the end of your poem.

A masterpiece, Michael. I believe I will take a bit of time tonight and go outside to see this painting you've described so beautifully...and undo the last stanza, at least a bit.

just wanted to tell you, that I sat outside last night and with your poem on my mind, looked up...at the beautiful star filled sky and remembered times when I was young and we used to beg to sleep outside, under the stars.....thank you for your beautiful poem

Hey there soul brother,

You speak the truth, there is much beauty on this earth, yet, people roam and search for it with shut eyes and closed minds. Beauty lies in the arms of our Mother Earth.

Right On!
