The Book of Parent’s Rules For Every Age

When I was young I heard parents say
“I wish there was a book on how to raise
kids, a parents book, to give us rules,
it would be worth more than gold or jewels.”

Then as a parent, I spoke about such a book
and it was no joke, here, just take a look,
for parenting is strange, no matter a kids’ age,
and you want a chapter for every stage.

So I guess it is with age and wisdom fine
such thoughts take a lifetime to unwind
for on a day when I was childless by age,
I found the book that set the stage.

Here are the rules for parenting.
Here are the rules for being raised.
Here are the rules, by one’s command.
And we’ve always had them close at hand.

You shall have no other gods before Me, no,
this is as I say, so it is so.
Nor worship an idol in any form;
you’ll not use My name in any other norm.

Remember Me on Sundays, holy are they,
again this is so, it is as I say.
Honor your parents, and your children will you,
in all these things, I say this is true.

You shall not murder, nay, but stay your hand;
nor commit adultery, never, it’s my command.
You shall not steal, nor give false testimony;
nor covet thy neighbor’s anything, but live in harmony.

How foolish was I to overlook these pages
set down for me from long past ages,
so simple, so fine, yes, I followed them too,
but now in my life, I see them in light anew.

So take these gifts He’s given to us
take them to heart, let them not gather dust,
and even if your children are all grown now,
give them to your grandkids, for you know how.

Sunshine,
This is excellent. It took me a long time
to figure out there was a manual, too. And
it's never to late to start using it.

Sy, Julie, Sally, Pepper - this was rumbling around in my head; I know that it was most likely redundant and that people do follow the 10 Commandments in raising their kids - but I wonder, how many do not? Thank you for your kind comments.
