Soldier With Wings ~Marge Tindal~ 1999 If I should ever meet a soldier in the sky .. I'd snap a crisp salute and never pass him by. If, on my walk through Heaven, I should chance to meet a soldier there walking ... I'll fall right to my knees. I'd look up at him with honor, love and thankful prayers. For every freedom I ever had, was mine because he cared. He gave his life in battle to keep this land free. A place where I could remember the choices he left for me. I will remember, with a thankful heart, the soldiers who gave their lives then from us did depart. So if I should meet a soldier in the sky ... I'd fall to my knees and look him in the eye. I'd take just a moment and thank him for the price, he paid so I might live in a land so nice. I'd shed a tear of thankfulness for my freedom, among other things. He was somebody's child ... this soldier with wings. After a moment of thanks, he'd turn and walk his way. One hug around his neck among the medals he displays. ------------------ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ noles1@totcon.com |

What a heartfelt poem. As a ex soldier I fully know the wages of the job and to hear the thanks by those I fought for in war expressed in words is a priceless gift. Thank you! |
