Lounge Singer

She strokes keys, high-low-high
Chords strike, dark blues bar
Straight blonde hair swinging
Her voice hushing the crowd

Green eyes penetrate the chosen
Men twist round in their chairs
Too good for this stinking joint
Sultry sexy voice hits home
Sparking interest with her song
Rising and falling, a diphthong

Wrapped in a sea foam sheath
Bejeweled long fingers loving ivory
Smoke drifts past like ghosts
She is unaware, lost in reverie

Her intensity bounces in waves
It radiates, permeates, alters air
Raptured breaths caught involuntarily
A moment captured, she alone owns

Bar maids stand still, trays in hand
Bartender mid-stream beer flows
Witnesses of her gift, she shares
A taste, a glimpse into heaven
As brief as the song is long
A reminder
Of all they lack
