Gently, She Comes
by © Richard Budig 1996

Softly . . .
Quietly . . .
Gently, she comes
On little cat feet
Moving silently
Through my dreams.
Usually, it's dawn
When she visits.
I waken to her scent
And think she's here
Beside me again
And I listen for her . . .
Her gentle breathing,
Her body beside mine.
I know it isn't so,
But I lay here
Until my tears
Wash her from me.
